IMPACT “Goes Green”

Since 2020, IMPACT Community Action has been a thought leader and champion for climate justice. In strong partnership with residents of Columbus’ opportunity neighborhoods, IMPACT is dedicated to reducing the effects of climate change to those who can least afford it. To date, IMPACT has participated in the creation of the Climate Action Plan, educated thousands of individuals on reducing their energy consumption/burden, gathered feedback from residents on electric vehicle policy for the City of Columbus, promoted 2 City of Columbus solar co-ops, and developed a clean energy workforce development program, Empowered!, with support from the City of Columbus. Moving forward, we are planning additional innovative climate justice programming and are always seeking like-minded partners to increase our impact in the community. IMPACT currently has a team of Climate Justice Advocates that represent opportunity neighborhoods throughout Franklin County.

During the month of April 2023, in honor of our rapidly expanding Climate Justice programs, IMPACT has added a color to the existing palette of oranges and blues. According to Director of Community Engagement, Jennifer Wood, “The truth is, thanks to our long-running weatherization program, IMPACT has always been green and a champion for climate justice. It’s only now that the rest of the country is catching up. We are thrilled to add green into our color palette to send Franklin County a signal that we are, and have been, a leader in this Climate Justice and Clean Energy Space - and that we are ready to show it!”

During IMPACT’s all-staff meeting in February, staff were given choices of greens and challenged to “choose their green,” and the entire staff had fun voting. The vote were tallied and the reveal was made in today’s meeting on April 20.
